Ajit Joseph Alles, MD, has been a pediatric pathologist at Cook Children’s Medical Center since 1997and joined Cook Children’s Physician Network in 2000.
Dr. Alles graduated with an MBBS from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka in 1980. He completed internships at The General Hospital Colombo, Sri Lanka as a Surgical House Officer, in March of 1981 and at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children Colombo, Sri Lanka as a Pediatric House Officer, in September 1981. He then joined the Department of Anatomy at the University of Colombo, Faculty of Medicine in Sri Lanka as a lecturer from 1981 to1983. He completed a PhD in Anatomy and Cell Biology at the Medical University of South Carolina in 1988 and did postdoctoral research in Teratology at the Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy, University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill from 1987 to 1992. Dr. Alles completed his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology in 1996 at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts, and completed a fellowship in Pediatric Pathology in 1997 at The Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts.
In addition to his clinical duties Dr. Alles maintains a continued interest in teaching and is an Adjunct Associate Professor, Division of Clinical Laboratory Science, Tarleton State University, Fort Worth, Texas 2000-Present, and an Adjunct Associate Professor, Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy, University of North Texas Health Science Center, Fort Worth, Texas, 2010-Present . He has functioned as the Clinical Consultant for the Transfusion Service at Cook Children’s Medical Center since 2000. Dr. Alles is certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with subspecialty certification in Pediatric Pathology.
