Dr Alejandro de la Torre was born and grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico. From an early age, he knew that he wanted to be a physician. During his medical school education in Chicago, he found a strong desire to pursue a career in Pediatrics, which was inspired by his joy of working with children and by a family history of many family members who were Pediatricians in both the United States and in Bolivia. During his residency, he was exposed to both general and subspecialty Pediatrics. Due to a strong interest in growth, development, and diabetes, Dr de la Torre pursued and completed a fellowship in Pediatric Endocrinology at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
Following his fellowship, Dr de la Torre practiced Pediatric Endocrinology in New Mexico for two years, gaining experience working with different populations with endocrine disorders and diabetes. Wanting to return to Texas, he joined Cook Children’s to continue his career as a Pediatric Endocrinologist. Along with seeing patients with general endocrine disorders and diabetes, Dr de la Torre is involved with seeing patients in the REACH (lipid) clinic.
