Creative arts therapy

Creative arts therapy is an intervention that encourages participants to explore their feelings through artistic expression. Creative arts therapy is offered to our young patients and their families through our Creative Artists in Residence Programme.

Our Artist in Residence, Diana Gibson, provides varied therapeutic art activities to enhance expression of feelings and promote positive coping skills. Diana assesses the current emotional state, needs and abilities of her participants and customizes a therapeutic art intervention for them.

Diana also works with families in "legacy building." Legacy building is designed for families who will lose or have lost a child. Our Artist in Residence works with parents, siblings and, when possible, the patient, to create a lasting memory and piece of art to commemorate their child/family. The results are unique and personal art projects that enable the family to have a special remembrance of their child. Diana receives her referrals of patients and siblings through our Child Life department.
