Project AdamProject ADAM (Automated defibrillators in Adam's memory)

Cook Children's is proud to lead Project ADAM Texas, the only Project ADAM affiliate in the state.

Is your child's school heart safe? The mission of the program is to serve children and adolescents through education and deployment of life-saving programs that help prevent sudden cardiac arrest. Project ADAM helps schools across the nation implement public access defibrillation (PAD) programs through support and education. The program helps schools determine the need for automated external defibrillators (AEDs), secure funding, provide program implementation templates and assist with effective marketing of the program.

Childhood and Adolescent Weight ManagementChildhood and Adolescent Weight Management

This weight-management program helps children with elevated cholesterol and lipids, who may also be obese. The Cook Children's staff uses an approach that includes changes in diet, exercise and behaviors. Cardiologists, nutritionists and psychologists participate in the program.

In addition to providing nutritional counseling and exercise recommendations, the Cook Children’s staff also helps heavier children deal with the emotional realities of their weight. Overweight children are sometimes teased because of their appearance, and they often want to lose weight to feel better about themselves. Unfortunately, children who feel down on themselves often turn to food for comfort. The nutritionists can provide tips to build self-esteem while also giving kids the information they need to live healthier lives.
