The medical team at Cook Children's Heart Center treats all kinds of heart conditions, from those that require minimal medical care, to very complex congenital and acquired conditions. And, because many heart conditions can develop even before birth, our patients range from prenatal all through the early adult years.
Our highly skilled team of recognized pediatric cardiovascular specialists is well-known for their expertise and includes heart and vascular specialists, surgeons, anesthesiologists, intensivists, perfusionists, ECMO specialists and nurses. Combined with advanced technologies and leading-edge medicine, you can trust that your child's heart is in good hands.
Adult congenital cardiology
Our adolescent and adult care program is designed to meet the unique needs of teens and adults, transitioning them from pediatric care to the complex care necessary to ensure optimal outcomes throughout their lives.
The cardiology team at Cook Children's has extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric heart care. They know the unique requirements of treating the growing hearts of children, including those with extremely rare and difficult conditions.
Cook Children's cardiothoracic surgeons help diagnose and treat patients with difficult heart and cardiovascular defects. Our Cardiothoracic Surgery program provides complete care for newborns, infants and children with heart and cardiovascular defects.
Cardiac specialty care unit (CSCU)
Cook Children's Cardiac specialty care unit team specializes in intensive care for patients with congenital heart disease and defects before and after surgery. Other patients also cared for in this unit include those with abnormal heart rhythms and heart failure from congenital and acquired cases.
Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMRI)
An important diagnostic tool, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMRI) is also a powerful tool in interventional cardiac catheterization, as well as continued care for kids, teens and young adults with heart conditions.
Cook Children's pediatric heart team is able to see vivid details of your child’s heart and blood vessels, pinpoint defects and evaluate your case quickly while involving parents every step of the way. We help you understand your child's diagnosis so you can make informed decisions.
A fetal ECHO is a safe, noninvasive test. Long before your baby is born, the doctor can see how the heart is developing and if there are serious issues, work with you to create a treatment plan that is best for both you and your baby. If critical medical care is required, a fetal ECHO can help you plan ahead.
When it comes to heart rhythm disorders, Cook Children's pediatric electrophysiology program is on the leading-edge of advanced diagnosis and treatment for children, teens and young adults.
Cook Children's Home Monitoring Program transitions patients with complex congenital heart disease from inpatient to home and helps detect problems before they become urgent life-threatening situations. This keeps emergency visits to a minimum and allows instead for clinic evaluation or direct hospital admission.
The pediatric interventional cardiology team at Cook Children's specializes in diagnostic evaluation and transcatheter treatment of a wide variety of complex congenital heart disease lesions.
