White Matter Clinic

Most of us have heard of grey matter, but the white matter found in the brain plays a very important role in the nervous system and the speed of the signals sent from the brain to other parts of the body.

White matter is a type of fat called myelin. This white colored brain tissue acts as an insulator to protect nerve fibers called axons. When white matter is damaged due to trauma or medical ailments, it can cause learning, behavioral, movement, sensory and cognitive disabilities.

The White Matter Clinic at Cook Children’s evaluates, diagnoses and treats the complex disorders that are a result of white matter injury.
