Choosing Our Team

Every expecting parent hopes for a perfect pregnancy and birth experience. But should you discover that your baby may need critical care, choose the right neonatal team is one of the most important decisions you'll ever have to make.

Every day, parents from all across North Texas, and many from across the state and beyond, trust the neonatology specialists at Cook Children's to care for the smallest, sickest, and most fragile babies. When the unexpected happens, our team has the skill and technology to provide the highest level of care for that tiny child that matters most, yours.

What is neonatology?

Neonatology is an in-hospital subspecialty of pediatrics that focuses solely on the care and treatment of critically ill newborns and babies that are born prematurely. Our neonatologists and Level IV Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) are ranked among the best in the nation for care that combines the most advanced treatments with heartfelt compassion.

With extensive training in neonatology, our team of specialists are among the best in caring for critically ill infants. When you entrust your newborn to Cook Children's, you'll have access to leading neonatologists, nationally recognized pediatricians and specialists, researchers, and clinicians who are all specially trained in pediatrics and the complexities of treating newborns and micro-preemies.

Level IV NICU

Level IV is the highest ranking a NICU can receive. But to earn it, you have to meet stringent requirements, especially in the areas of advanced medicine and quality of care. Our Level IV NICU is fully equipped to treat the sickest children with the most difficult and complex diagnoses, including all types of respiratory, surgical, cardiac, genetic, renal, neurological, hematological and metabolic diseases. We care for babies as young as 23 weeks gestation and as small as one pound at birth.

Our Level IV NICU

Care that goes beyond our NICU

As part of our collaborative nature, we have access to the full support of a wide array of our pediatric specialties including neurosciences, genetics, hematology, endocrinology, gastroenterology and many more specialties and subspecialties to support your child's specific needs. Your child will also have access to state-of-the-art testing and diagnostics with a focus on technology that is minimally or noninvasive whenever possible. And that means giving you and your child the best treatment options and care choices available to repair their heart and help them grow and lead active lives.

For nearly a century Cook Children's has been caring for the infants and children with some of the rarest and challenging conditions. Thanks to our continually advancing medicines, technologies and excellent outcomes, today Cook Children's is an internationally recognized pediatric health care system.
