Amy Hixson graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Baylor University in 2006. While at Baylor, Amy was involved in fundraising for Make a Wish Foundation as well as other student activities. She was involved in helping to tutor underserved children in the Waco area as well as other ministries through Mission Waco as a college student. Her nursing career began in the hematology and oncology inpatient unit at Cook Children's, where she worked for over seven years. She has always loved children and the idea of helping them through illness in whatever way possible.
Amy began working on her master’s degree in nursing at the University of Arlington while working as a nurse with plans to become a pediatric nurse practitioner. She completed her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2012. As a pediatric nurse practitioner she worked in the pediatric intensive care unit at Cook Children's Medical Center for 2-1/2 years before moving to primary care.
Amy is dual board certified as both a primary care and acute care pediatric nurse practitioner and is a member of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners. She lives in Arlington with her husband, John, and her son, Scott, who was born in 2013.
