Stop The Bleed

Cook Children’s, along with Fort Worth Fire Fighter Charities and Fort Worth Fire Department, are pleased to sponsor the Stop the Bleed program. Through the program, members of our specially trained Cook Children's Trauma team are providing Stop the Bleed Classes to teachers, churches and community members interested in knowing how to prevent deaths from massive bleeding.

The only thing more tragic than a death … is a death that could have been prevented.

Today we live in a world where life-threatening events are becoming increasingly more frequent. Massive bleeding from any cause, including an active shooter event, building or structural collapse or major vehicle or transportation crashes, where a response is delayed can result in death. Similar to how CPR is taught, our team teaches proper bleeding control techniques, including dressings, tourniquets and using hands to apply pressure. Victims can quickly die from uncontrolled bleeding, within five to 10 minutes, this training can help extend an injured person's chance of survival.

Individuals who are trained in Stop the Bleed procedures are able to act as immediate responders and can often save lives.
