Endocrinology and Diabetes

Cook Children's Endocrinology team treats infants, children and teens with conditions that are caused by or affect the hormonal balance of the body. We understand the importance of working together and that's how we approach the care of our children.

Our team, comprised of board certified pediatric endocrinologists, certified pediatric nurse practitioners, certified educators, psychologists and other pediatric specialists, creates individualized treatment plans incorporating the latest technological advances in diagnosis and care.

Gastroenterology

The staff of Cook Children's Gastroenterology assist your children with the care, diagnosis, treatment and education required for diseases and disorders of the digestive system.

Our team in Denton provides pediatric gastrointestinal motility diagnostic testing. Digestive motility happens when the intestines cannot move normally which can cause severe constipation, diarrhea, difficulty swallowing and tube feeding intolerance.

Cook Children's Gastroenterology also offers therapeutic and diagnostic endoscopy, which is a flexible tube with a video camera used to look inside the gastrointestinal tract. Your doctor may also suggest pyloric balloon dilation for your child.

Genetics

The physicians and staff that makeup Cook Children's Genetics help patients and their families understand the disorders and related recurrence risks.

Genetic tests are done by analyzing small samples of blood or body tissues. They determine whether you, your partner, or your baby carry genes for certain inherited disorders.

We offer a wide array of specialized genetic services, including:

Pulmonology

Our team includes board certified pediatric pulmonologists, clinical nurse specialists, registered nurses, respiratory therapists, Child Life specialists, clinical dieticians and social workers.

The professional opinion of each team member, including parents, is considered in developing a plan of care for your child. We place a high value on continuity of care with your primary pulmonologist.

Cook Children's Pulmonology team provides specialized expertise in several areas.

Cystic Fibrosis
Cook Children's Cystic Fibrosis (CF) center is nationally accredited by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Our pulmonologists work with the CF team to provide care for children, adolescents and adults, which include age-specific education for patients and their families. Cook Children's is working diligently to identify patients earlier in age through enhanced state-required newborn screening requirements.

Asthma
Working with primary care physicians, our pulmonologists provide comprehensive care to asthmatics, particularly high-risk cases, educating patients and family members on protocols to manage his or her asthma more independently.

Sleep Center
Cook Children's is an accredited Sleep Center for those pediatric patients with sleep apnea and other breathing disorders.

Chronic Lung Disease of Infancy (CDLI) or Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD)
BPD is a lung disease that may develop in premature infants. Physicians, respiratory therapists, a nutritionist and members of the Gastroenterology team work to care for BPD patients and may offer rehabilitative therapy.

Sleep Center

Having a child with restless sleep can be a cause for great concern. Depending on the cause, disturbed sleep may interfere with your child's health, ability to learn and daily life. Cook Children's Sleep Center in Fort Worth offers help for children with abnormal sleep symptoms such as snoring, sleepwalking or bedwetting.

Left untreated, kids with sleep disorders may develop serious, and even life-threatening conditions. At Cook Children's, we specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders in kids. Our pediatric sleep specialists are devoted to performing procedures according to the highest medical standards using integrated sleep software for the diagnosis and management of pediatric sleep-related disturbances.

Urology

As part of our new Pediatric Urology department, the Genitourinary Research, Education and Treatment (GREAT) Kids program is led by a team of world-renowned medical professionals with expertise in both common and rare genitourinary diseases and conditions to the children of North Texas and beyond.

The Cook Children's urology/genitourinary team specializes in providing advanced care for newborns, infants, children, teens, and young adults with acquired or congenital urologic and genitourinary ailments.

Telemedicine Services

With Cook Children's Telehealth and Virtual Medicine program, your patient families can virtually connect to Cook Children's specialists in real-time, without the time and expense of having to travel to Fort Worth. The clinic is staffed with specialized diagnostic equipment that allows our physicians to virtually examine the patient. They can review recent lab work, tests and scans with patient families, just as if they were in the office. Additionally, we also offer telehealth services with dietitians, social workers, psychologists or counselors for patient education, dietary consultations and more.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Referral/Admittance

Refer to our Level IV all-single room neonatal ICU which provides heart rate observation (HeRO) technology, ECMO and hypothermia therapies, as well as integrated cardiac monitoring, infant stroke, preemie care, and other critical neonatal medical conditions.
