This means your medical information is only available to the Cook Children's health care professionals caring for you or your child. Endocrinology and Diabetes

Cook Children's Endocrinology team treats infants, children and teens with conditions that are caused by or affect the hormonal balance of the body. We understand the importance of working together and that's how we approach the care of our children.

As part of our collaborative nature, we have access to the full support of a wide array of our pediatric specialties including genetics, hematology-oncology and other specialties that might be required to support your child's specific issue. Your child will also have access to state-of-the-art testing and diagnostics. And that means giving you and your child the best treatment options and care choices available to help them grow and lead active lives.

Our team, comprised of board certified pediatric endocrinologists, certified pediatric nurse practitioners, certified educators, psychologists and other pediatric specialists, creates individualized treatment plans incorporating the latest technological advances in diagnosis and care.

Gastroenterology and Nutrition

The staff of Cook Children's Gastroenterology assist your children with the care, diagnosis, treatment and education required for diseases and disorders of the digestive system.

Our team in Mansfield provides pediatric gastrointestinal motility diagnostic testing. Digestive motility happens when the intestines cannot move normally which can cause severe constipation, diarrhea, difficulty swallowing and tube feeding intolerance.

Cook Children's Gastroenterology also offers therapeutic and diagnostic endoscopy, which is a flexible tube with a video camera used to look inside the gastrointestinal tract. Your doctor may also suggest pyloric balloon dilation for your child.

Nephrology

Cook Children's Nephrology and Dialysis Services uses a team approach to help kids with kidney-related conditions. Patients and their families have a wealth of support available to them from many resources, including specialized nurses, nutritionists, social workers and Child life specialists.

Whether your child needs inpatient care, outpatient care, dialysis or even kidney transplantation, our nephrologists provide continuous care through the entire process. Cook Children's Orthopedics provides comprehensive treatment for children and adolescents with sports injuries, traumatic injuries, congenital and developmental problems of the extremities and spine.

Our specialists are experts on the pediatric skeleton, growth and bone development, and Cook Children's Sports Performance Orthopedic Rehab Team Specialists (SPORTS) program offers care to children and adolescents with orthopedic or sports-related injuries.

The Pediatric Surgery team at Cook Children's specializes in many surgical conditions, from simple to the most complex, and many of these procedures are performed using minimally invasive techniques.

Cook Children's handles many childhood surgical conditions, including:

Our psychology department provides therapy and diagnostic testing to children, ages 2 to 18, and behavioral consulting to their families. We engage children and adolescents in environments that are nurturing and developmentally appropriate for their specific needs.

Our staff is specifically trained to work with young patients and our psychologists are board certified in child and/or adolescent psychology.

Our therapists and psychologists work together with you and your child/teen to develop a custom treatment plan to help achieve specific agreed upon results.

Pulmonology

Our team includes board certified pediatric pulmonologists, clinical nurse specialists, registered nurses, respiratory therapists, Child Life specialists, clinical dieticians and social workers.

The professional opinion of each team member, including parents, is considered in developing a plan of care for your child. We place a high value on continuity of care with your primary pulmonologist.

Cook Children's Pulmonology team provides specialized expertise in several areas.

Cystic Fibrosis
Cook Children's Cystic Fibrosis (CF) center is nationally accredited by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Our pulmonologists work with the CF team to provide care for children, adolescents and adults, which include age-specific education for patients and their families. Cook Children's is working diligently to identify patients earlier in age through enhanced state-required newborn screening requirements.

Asthma
Working with primary care physicians, our pulmonologists provide comprehensive care to asthmatics, particularly high-risk cases, educating patients and family members on protocols to manage his or her asthma more independently.

Sleep Center
Cook Children's is an accredited Sleep Center for those pediatric patients with sleep apnea and other breathing disorders.

Chronic Lung Disease of Infancy (CDLI) or Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD)
BPD is a lung disease that may develop in premature infants. Physicians, respiratory therapists, a nutritionist and members of the Gastroenterology team work to care for BPD patients and may offer rehabilitative therapy.

Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation

At Cook Children's Rehabilitation Services, we understand that no two children are alike. That's why we offer four types of therapy plans, tailored specifically for your child and his/her needs. We want to make every appointment unique for each family.

Cook Children's Rehabilitation team members include doctors, surgeons, audiologists and speech-language pathologists and physical and occupational therapists. Other professionals may be added to a child's "team" if needed. We offer physical, occupational, speech and audiology therapy for kids.

Evaluations will be done by a licensed clinician who will develop a specific therapy plan for your child. The clinician will include the family in the planning to help identify specific functional abilities or goals for the patient. The therapy plan will include how often therapy will occur and how long it's expected to last. It will also show how the patient will make progress toward their goals and outcomes.

Sleep Disorders

Having a child with sleep disorders can be a cause for great concern. Depending on the cause, disturbed sleep may interfere with your child's health, ability to learn and daily life. Cook Children's offers help for children with abnormal sleep symptoms such as snoring, sleepwalking or bedwetting.

Left untreated, kids with sleep disorders may develop serious, and even life-threatening conditions. At Cook Children's, we specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders in kids. Our pediatric sleep specialists are devoted to performing procedures according to the highest medical standards using integrated sleep software for the diagnosis and management of pediatric sleep-related disturbances.

Urology

As part of our new Pediatric Urology department, the Genitourinary Research, Education and Treatment (GREAT) Kids program is led by a team of world-renowned medical professionals with expertise in both common and rare genitourinary diseases and conditions to the children of North Texas and beyond.

The Cook Children's urology/genitourinary team specializes in providing advanced care for newborns, infants, children, teens, and young adults with acquired or congenital urologic and genitourinary ailments.

Cook Children's Home Health services

Sometimes kids need long-term care, or will heal better in a familiar setting. We can assist in arranging referrals for quality, patient-centered care in the comfort of home through Cook Children's Home Health. Led by a clinical team with vast experience in pediatrics, our visiting nurses have a minimum of five years of pediatric experience and our skilled visiting nurses are PALS certified.
