Health

Medical and pharmacy

Cook Children's offers two comprehensive health care plans, available to all full- and half-time employees. Additionally, when you sign up for a medical plan, pharmacy coverage is automatically included at no additional cost.

Dental

We offer full- and half-time employees a comprehensive PPO plan with orthodontia coverage.

Vision

We offer full- and half-time employees a vision plan through Superior Vision.

Teladoc

Teladoc is a convenient alternative to urgent care or ER visits. U.S. board-certified physicians are available anytime, anywhere and can resolve many nonemergency medical issues via phone or online video. Teladoc is available to all employees with a Cook Children's health care plan.

Life insurance

Cook Children's Health Care System provides full-time employees with Basic Life/AD&D coverage at 3X annual salary (maximum $1,000,000). In addition, Supplemental Life, Spouse Life and Child Life are available for purchase by full- and half-time employees (up to the maximum amounts in the table below).

Long-term disability

For full-time employees, Cook Children's provides a basic long-term disability plan that pays 50% of your base salary beginning six months after the date of your disability. All full-time employees have the option of purchasing an additional 10% coverage for a total of 60% of the base salary in long-term disability coverage. All half-time employees have the option to purchase a 60% long-term disability plan. The maximum benefit is $15,000 a month.

Short-term disability

Cook Children's provides company-paid short-term disability plans for full-time and half-time employees that pay 70% of your base salary, for a maximum of 25 weeks, following a one-week waiting period. The maximum benefit is $2,500 per week. 

Paid Parent Leave (PPL)

Cook Children’s provides eligible employees with PPL for baby bonding, equal to six continuous weeks, following the birth or adoption of your child.

Flexible spending accounts

Employees may participate in either the medical and/or dependent care flexible spending accounts that allow pre-tax deductions to be used for health care expenses.


Financial

Retirement plan

All employees are eligible to make pre-tax and/or post-tax (Roth) contributions to Cook Children's 403(b) plan and will receive corresponding matching funds in Cook Children's 401(a). Matching contributions will be based on your employment status, contribution level to the 403(b) and your years of service (see chart below).

Tuition reimbursement

After six months of employment, full- and half-time employees are eligible for tuition reimbursement for job-related courses taken toward a degree from an accredited institution. Full-time employees are reimbursed for eligible tuition and fees for the current IRS non-taxable limit per calendar year, half the current IRS non-taxable limit for half-time.


Well-being

Occupational Health

Our Occupational Health clinic is located near Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth. Our mission is to promote the health and safety of our employees in the workplace. Therefore, we offer a free health clinic to all employees Mon-Fri. Services and treatments include, but are not limited to: annual flu vaccines, minor sprains/strains, respiratory illnesses, skin rashes, leave of absence (LOA) and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) return-to-work processing, tuberculosis testing and treatment of workplace injuries.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)/Work-Life

The employee assistance program (EAP) is a company-sponsored, company-paid resource designed to provide immediate professional assistance for all personal or emotional problems at no cost. These services are provided for employees and their household members to include assistance with marital and family problems, work-related conflicts, emotional distress and alcohol or drug abuse. Additionally, Work-Life offers assistance, information and support to help you achieve a better balance between work, life and family to help make your life easier.

HealthyMe

HealthyMe is Cook Children's voluntary employee wellness initiative that helps create an overall culture of health and wellness for all employees. The initiative includes a yearlong incentive program and a variety of wellness services to build a better me. HealthyMe is open to all employees.


Additional benefits

Paid-time off

Employees begin accruing PTO hours upon hire. PTO hours are accrued for every hour paid (up to 80 hours per pay period). The accrual rate is as follows:

Adoption program

Cook Children's provides financial assistance to employees who seek the adoption of children who are not related to either the employee or their spouse. All full- and half-time employees are eligible for the adoption benefit after completing one year of service.

Bright Horizons Care Advantage Program

This service helps with disruptions in family care arrangements that could cause a work absence. Cook Children's subsidizes this program and offers up to 10 uses of services per year for a child or adult/elder relative.

Concierge and travel services

Cook Children's Concierge and Travel Services can help you create a better work/life balance. The team can assist you with corporate travel, vacation planning, chair massages, amusement park tickets, movie passes and more!

Kids' Place (a Bright Horizons child care facility)

Cook Children's understands the importance of quality child care, early education and providing work/life solutions for our employees and their families. That's why we're proud to partner with Kids' Place, a child development center managed by the professional staff of Bright Horizons and located just across the street from Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth.
