"I'm concerned my child isn't developing normally." Don't worry, but take action.

Medical issues can affect the development of a child's motor skills, language, social skills, and cognitive or thinking ability. Certain physical signs or symptoms may indicate that there are medical problems underlying a child's delays. Start by contacting your child's pediatrician or healthcare provider to share your concerns and schedule a consultation.

Medical concerns include, but are not limited to:

  • Vision or hearing difficulties
  • Feeding issues (feeding tube use, peculiar feeding patterns, food selectivity or refusal, vomiting, swallowing difficulty, obesity)
  • Congenital heart disease
  • Fetal alcohol or drug exposure
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Head appears too large or too small
  • Child was a premature baby
  • Muscle weakness
  • Child displays toe-walking behavior
  • Poor growth or doesn't appear to be thriving
