Separating families is never easy, especially for pediatric patients who are in the hospital. While most of the news stories focus on the vulnerability of older people, children with medical conditions are especially vulnerable. To protect our patients and reduce the risk of spreading the COVID-19 virus, Cook Children’s, like many other pediatric hospitals across the nation, has limited visitations at the medical center to a maximum of two adult primary caregivers per patient. For our patients, that means no onsite visits from friends and other family members, including brothers and sisters.
Protecting our patients while keeping them engaged.
While we've added this extra level of protection to reduce the risk of coronavirus exposure to our inpatients, we've also added a double layer of care. To help fill the void, our staff is working around the clock to help patients feel connected. Our Child Life team is doing this through our in-house broadcast channel, where we can provide interactive programs designed to help children feel engaged and have a sense of normalcy in these unusual times.
