From an early age, he knew that he wanted to be a physician. During his medical school education in Chicago, he found a strong desire to pursue a career in Pediatrics, which was inspired by his joy of working with children and by a family history of many family members who were Pediatricians in both the United States and in Bolivia. During his residency, he was exposed to both general and subspecialty Pediatrics. Due to a strong interest in growth, development, and diabetes, Dr de la Torre pursued and completed a fellowship in Pediatric Endocrinology at UT Southwestern Medical Center.<br /><br /> Following his fellowship, Dr de la Torre practiced Pediatric Endocrinology in New Mexico for two years, gaining experience working with different populations with endocrine disorders and diabetes. Wanting to return to Texas, he joined Cook Children's to continue his career as a Pediatric Endocrinologist. Our son was running wild inside from all the energy, yet the staff and doctor were very understanding of this and were engaging with him. They help us speed up the process yet being thorough, since we had to drive 4 hours back home. As we were leaving, the front staff and nurses gave my son an age appropriate toy to play with for the drive back home. They also offered advice from family friendly places to eat and stay for future visits to San Angelo.
