I grew up in Colombia as part of a small family. Both of my parents were physicians and they were very passionate about their jobs. I admired them very much. But it was a family illness that really impacted my choice to become a doctor.
One of my older brothers was diagnosed with leukemia at 13 years of age, he underwent chemotherapy but he passed away at age 16. This painful experience inspired my interest in becoming a pediatrician to be able to help kids and families going through stressful and painful times. It also made me interested in research to try to find the cure for many different medical conditions.
Today, I feel very fortunate to be part of Cook Children's Medical Center and feel that being a pediatrician is a very fulfilling way of living.
I also enjoy living in Ft. Worth's and exploring its museums, spending time outdoors, biking and walking. When it comes to sports, I'm a soccer fan at heart. Real Madrid, my favorite team, typically plays during work hours, but fortunately my favorite soccer channel replays games in the evening.
