Irene Castaneda-Sanchez, MD, has been a pediatric pathologist with Cook Children's Medical Center since 2009.
Dr. Sanchez received her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston in 2004. She completed her residency in Pathology at the University Health Sciences Center in San Antonio, Texas in 2008 and completed a fellowship in Pediatric Pathology at the University of Texas Southwestern/ Children's Medical Center in Dallas in 2009.
Dr. Sanchez was appointed Medical Director of Pathology and Laboratory Services at Cook Children's Medical Center in March, 2018 and served as Medical Director of the clinical laboratory at Cook Children's Northeast Hospital from 2014-2018. She serves on several committees at the medical center, including Continuing Medical Education Committee (2014), Medical Board Committee (2015-17), Peer Assistance Committee (2018) and Trauma/PIPS Committee (2018). She has professional affiliations with the Society for Pediatric Pathology, the College of American Pathologists, the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, and the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
Dr. Sanchez is certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic/Clinical Pathology and Pediatric Pathology.
