Gillespie</h2></div> <p class="my-4">When things get complicated, you want the very best care for your child. Dr. Robert Gillespie offers the latest advances in the treatment and care of nephrology, and kidney related illnesses, diseases, and disorders. It's that special kind of care that focuses on the one child that matters most: yours.<br /><br /> It was during his rotations in medical school that Dr. Gillespie decided to enter the field of pediatrics. There was something special about the upbeat attitudes of both doctors and patients, and he wanted to be a part of that.<br /><br /> It was that same level of caring that drew him to Cook Children's. "Here at Cook Children's, we put the patients first. We're very good at identifying a child's unique needs and finding the resources to meet them."<br /><br /> Dr. Gillespie is very involved with patients and families at Cook Children's. Two to four times a year, he offers informal cooking classes at the medical center for groups of patients and families. He teaches them healthful, simple, easy recipes they can follow at home for special dietary needs such as low sodium. Of course, the lessons include sharing the meals with conversation and a sense of community.<br /><br /> Dr. Gillespie has also written many articles for medical publications and has given many presentations to medical groups. Professional activities include international outreach programs, development of computer-based tools for nephrologists and research on lysosomal storage diseases. In the summers, he serves as a camp doctor for Camp Reynal, a summer camp for children with kidney diseases.<br /><br /> When he's not working, Dr. Gillespie devotes time to his wife and two children. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoys camping, kayaking and checking off a list of the state parks he's visited in Texas.
