Meet Dr. Shelby Jacob

Shelby Jacob, M.D., chose pediatrics because it's the perfect combination of everything she enjoys. Pediatrics brings together the science of medicine, the art of communication and the love of creating lasting and meaningful relationships with families in the community. "Especially in the age of technology, the opportunity to be a trusted resource for evidence based recommendations is a privilege and honor that I take very seriously." Dr. Jacob says. "I love my patients, I really do. I think about them, care for them and treat them as I would my own children."?
Dr. Jacob graduated with honors from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska and then returned home to Chicago to complete her medical degree and pediatric residency training at Rush University Medical Center. After completing her final year as Chief Resident, she relocated to her husband's hometown of Dallas to be closer to family.
She came to Cook Children's in 2015 after spending six years as an assistant professor of pediatrics teaching medical students and pediatric residents at UT Southwestern and Children's Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Jacob continues to use her passion for teaching to assist parents and caregivers to help raise healthy and happy children. She enjoys discussing normal growth and development, safety, nutrition and current recommendations with families. She is board certified and fluent in English, Spanish and Malayalam.
Dr. Jacob lives in Keller, is married and has three young, active daughters of her own who have taught her more about compassion, listening and the importance of empathy in pediatrics than any textbook could have. Dr. Jacob enjoys trying new restaurants, planning vacations, reading books and spending quality time with family and friends.

Dr Jacob was amazing! I was worried about switching providers as I had moved and this office was closer to me, but this provider made me wish I had made the move sooner. She was very thorough and took her time getting to know my mostly nonverbal child.

Doctor the time to not only address me with any questions or concerns I had, she directly included my 11 year old son with any questions or concerns he might have for himself. The nurse was very helpful as well and was very empathetic towards my son that was getting shots that day. The entire staff was all very welcoming and helpful.

We have seen Dr Jacob since [...] was born and there is one reason we have stayed with her and that is because she is amazing! She has awesome bedside manner, always listens to our questions and listens when [...] is telling her a story. Her assistants are always friendly and the office staff is great!! The office staff does whatever they can to accommodate your schedule which is a huge difference from so many offices!

Dr Jacob did great at making sure we had some plan. We weren't 100% sure what was going on when we got here Monday, but she didn't just immediately send us to the ER. She tried other things with a follow up to see if we could avoid that. Unfortunately we still ended up there, but she still communicated everything to us calmly and well. She also followed us on my chart while at the ER to see results. She even called when we got results to see how we were doing and let us know she was really watching us.
