Junior Volunteers

Junior volunteers

Whether you are interested in working with patients and families, or have a career interest in the medical or a related field, being a junior volunteer at Cook Children’s offers a very rewarding experience. If you will be between 15 – 18 years old by June 1, 2021, you should consider volunteering at Cook Children’s for the summer.

Junior volunteers help families with way-finding, support staff with clerical tasks, keep patients and siblings entertained through play and reading activities, provide parents with much needed breaks, assist with community events, and much more. Opportunities to volunteer are available June through August, seven days a week, mornings, afternoons, and evenings, depending on the placement. Placements are at the Fort Worth Medical Center.

The 2021 Summer Program

Due to the COVID pandemic, specific dates for the summer program will be announced at a later time.

Applications will be accepted December 1, 2020 to February 1, 2021.

To apply, you must be able to commit to one 8-hour shift every week of the 9-week summer program for a minimum total of 64 hours (4-hour shifts are available upon request for a total of 36 hours).

Junior volunteer application

Junior volunteers come in the same day and time each week all summer long. Please check your summer schedule to be absolutely sure you can commit to volunteering for the full program. If you will be gone more than two weeks during the summer, please do not apply for this year.

Onboarding process

  • Application received (complete the form in full, paying close attention to detail)
  • Student contacted by email (after March 1st) for an interview if the application is accepted. Student notified by email if not accepted.
  • After an interview has been completed, placements will be tentatively assigned dependent upon successful completion of orientation(s) and other requirements.
  • New volunteer orientation(s) will be offered in April, 2021 (Saturdays or weeknight)
  • Placement information (department/unit, day/time of scheduled shift, supervisor’s contact information, etc.) emailed to student by end of May, 2021.

Due to the COVID pandemic, any of the above may be rescheduled, modified, or cancelled, as needed. Applicants will be notified of any changes by email.
