2016 Nursing Annual Report
I am honored to present this year's Cook Children's Nursing Annual Report.
In early 2016, we welcomed Magnet appraisers and then achieved our third consecutive designation. Throughout the past twelve months we have hosted visits by multiple regulatory agencies and accrediting teams. We have filled our walls with awards and certificates; however, these honors only tell part of our story.
Our south tower expansion continues with our Emergency Department occupancy this past August. Next, our Perioperative Services department will move into state-of-the-art suites later this fall. With all of this exciting growth, nursing recruitment and retention is vital. We celebrate Cook Children's nursing commitment with strong nursing retention, favorable nursing engagement results and successful recruitment efforts.
Cook Children's Nursing continues to achieve outstanding patient outcomes as we implement evidenced-based practices and research and provide family-centered patient care. We have created a new nursing strategic plan with some of our goals highlighted in this report. I am confident that you will be inspired by this year's professional accomplishments – all carefully inspired by focusing on our patients and families. Each of us contributes to the spirit of nursing because we are Cook Children's!
At the heart of our care is an inspiring Promise to our community: "Knowing that every child's life is sacred, it is the Promise of Cook Children's to improve the health of every child in our region through the prevention and treatment of illness, disease and injury."
