Choosing Cook Children's for wound care
Whether the cause is an injury, surgery, illness or genetic condition, our team understands the particular needs of pediatric wound care. Our team specializes in caring for younger patients, from babies to young adults. We'll work with you to determine the best plan to help your child get back to the business of growing up.
When you choose our clinic, you can expect:
- Team expertise: Our plastic surgeon focuses on wound care, has decades of experience, and stays current with the latest medical advances. Our nurses are also certified in caring for wounds and stomas - the surgical openings sometimes created to access organs. Learn more about our Pediatric Plastic Surgery team.
- Range of care: We provide surgical and nonsurgical treatments. We also have access to the latest therapies, including stem-cell-based healing products. Cook Children's also has a skilled inpatient wound care team should your child require a medical center stay.
- Sensitive approach: We always take the time to help you understand your child's care. We give you the tools to feel comfortable and confident while you help your child heal. We also look for ways to make treatment less painful. For example, we may be able to use a longer-lasting wound dressing, avoiding the need to apply ointment every day.
- Seamless care: We make sure your child ends up in the best place for their care. We work closely with Cook Children's two emergency departments and Urgent Care. We also oversee prompt and coordinated transfers when patients need care at the Parkland Burn Center in Dallas.
