Frequently Asked Questions
Can I make an appointment?
Yes, you may now select a time that is most convenient for you to connect with a provider. Appointment times are only available for the same-day.
What is Virtual Care?
It‘s a way to talk with a Cook Children's board certified pediatrician about your child's medical needs through video by using a computer, laptop, or mobile device when your child's primary care physician is not available. Virtual Care is not designed to replace your child's primary care Medical Home. It's important that you have an established relationship with a primary care physician to properly assess your child's development and over all well-being.
When can I use Virtual Care?
Don't use Virtual Care if your child's condition is an emergency. Please go to the nearest emergency department or call 911.
If you live in Tarrant County and you're concerned that your child may need to be tested for COVID-19, please call Tarrant County's Coronavirus Hotline at 817-248-6299. Outside of Tarrant County, please contact the health department in your county. They will be able to let you know what steps, if any, you need to take.

If you don't have the MyCookChildren's app, or you'd like to use a desktop or laptop computer instead of a mobile device, please make sure your computer has a working web camera, microphone, speakers and high-speed internet connection. Internet Explorer and Google Chrome web browsers are compatible with this service. If this is your or your child's first virtual care visit, we encourage you to download Zoom in advance to make sure you have convenient access to your doctor.
Private and secure?
Yes. The video program we provide is a private, secure, and HIPAA compliant platform.
What about medication?
The Cook Children's physician will determine during your child's Virtual Care video visit if medication is needed to treat your child's condition. If medication is required, the physician can send a prescription electronically to the pharmacy of your choice.
You should contact your child's established physician directly to request refills for routine medications or controlled substances including narcotic pain medications.
Can I get a doctor's note?
If it's determined during your child's Virtual Care video visit that a return to school/work note is needed, the physician can create a note that you can access via MyCookChildren's and print at home.
