Cook Children's Teddy Bear Transport staff of nearly 60 neonatal/pediatric nurses, respiratory therapists and paramedics are dedicated to getting the most medically fragile children and neonates to our award-winning medical center quickly and safely.

Once we arrive at Cook Children's, your can trust that your patient is in the care of globally and nationally recognized pediatric specialtists.

Cook Children's offers specialty care for some of the rarest chidlhood conditions in neonatology, caridology, endocrinology, hematology and oncology, gastroenterology, urology and neurosciences, to name a few.

Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Our level IV NICU is staffed with a team of neonatologists and specialists who combine expertise with the latest technology to provide the highest level of neonatal care available.

Level II Trauma Center

Cook Children's designated level II Trauma Center is staffed and equipped to provide comprehensive emergency medical services to patients suffering traumatic injuries 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Neonatal pediatric critical care

Interfacility transport, performed by a neonatal pediatric critical care specialized transport team, compared with a nonspecialized team, was associated with improved survival rates and fewer unplanned events during transport, regardless of the severity of illness.

In addition, our team is proud to have:

  • Certification by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Services (CAMTS).
  • The first pediatric/neonatal transport team in Texas to utilize high-frequency ventilation in an air medical helicopter. The high-frequency ventilator is now a standard fixture in all isolettes, offering conventional or high-frequency ventilation on every neonatal transport.
  • Nitric oxide is now standard on isolettes and available on every neonatal transport.
  • Our transport team will travel to high-risk deliveries to ensure that the newborn receives the best care as quickly as possible.
  • Hospital-based program to help achieve quality, safety and access to board certified physicians.
  • Patient representatives, who collaborate with the referring physician to choose the most appropriate mode of transportation.
  • A fleet fully equipped with all necessary supplies, including satellite phones to ensure constant communication.
  • The ability to provide noninvasive ventilation for all patients.
  • Therapeutic neuroprotective hypothermia management.
  • Outreach education to referring facilities.
  • Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
